How would you best optimize your use of Facebook for advertising purposes?

Q. I currently am working for Southern Oregon University, a small 4-year college in Ashland, Oregon. We are looking to use Facebook to advertise our college to perspective transfer students. Our target audience are community college students living in Northern California.

A. You need to create a fan page first and foremost. Allowing people to become fans put your key stakeholders directly in touch with your organization. Also, as more people become fans of your page, their friends will receive recommendations of pages that they've recently joined. You should be able to pick up a wider audience there. That also gives you the opportunity to announce new features and programs at your school to mutliple stakeholders at the same time. And, if you want to twitter, for instance, you can announce it there and transfer your fans to your Twitter as well.
I do this same work for a futures/foreign exchange trading firm out in Chicago. They were afraid of Facebook and Twitter because they're older folks that don't necessarily understand these programs, but trust me, you'll get out of it what you put into it.

What are some marketing techniques a pub/hotel could use in a small town to get more business?
Q. About 2500 people live in the town, promotions/facebook/advertising techniques are the kind of thing im looking for. Anyone got any tips?

A. Karaoke night, host a local band with a following, ladies night, contests w/ prizes, drink specials, target a specific crowd and offer what appeals to them the most (quiet& upscale or loud & busy or full of goths & emo etc.....) Hire a HOT male waiter and single women will flock in just for his smile and appeal. Personally I loathe sports and avoid anywhere with televisions blaring some stupid game but if that's your target market buy GREAT televisions and a surround sound system even for sports.

Is is illegal to make a Group on Facebook to advertise someone product?
Q. Is is illegal to make a Group on Facebook to advertise someone product?
Because i make a Group for andysautosport on Facebook and i was wandering since I'm not the owner of the website if i can do that.

A. It may be illegal because you're misrepresenting owner of that product. Only someone with the authorization from the company can represent it. Also, when Facebook realizes your page is not legitimately from the company, they will delete it, along with your personal account.
